FAQs: Gum Disease & Periodontal Therapy

Do bleeding gums mean I have gum disease?

Often, yes—bleeding is a common sign of inflammation. Early treatment (and better home care) can reverse gingivitis and prevent bone loss.

Will a regular cleaning fix gum disease?

Not if pockets are deep. Scaling & root planing cleans below the gumline where routine cleanings can’t reach.

Does treatment hurt?

We keep you comfortable with topical gel and/or local anesthesia. Mild soreness afterward is typical and short-lived.

How long does it take?

Most non-surgical therapy is completed over 1–2 visits per side of the mouth, followed by a 4–6 week re-evaluation.

Will gum tissue grow back?

Inflammation resolves and gums can tighten, but advanced bone loss doesn’t “grow back” without specialist procedures. Early care is best.

I have diabetes—can I still treat my gums?

Absolutely. Good periodontal health can improve blood sugar control; we’ll coordinate with your physician as needed.
