What is a crown?

A crown is a custom cover that fits over a prepared tooth to restore strength, shape, and appearance. Crowns are recommended when a filling isn’t strong enough or the tooth is at risk of cracking.

What to Expect: The Crown Process

• Diagnosis & Planning: Exam, digital x-rays, and photos to confirm a crown is the best option. Clear plan, timeline, and quote provided up front.
• Tooth Preparation: We comfortably shape the tooth and remove any old filling or decay as needed.
• Impressions / Scan & Shade Match: Precise mould or digital scan is taken along with a shade selection for a natural match.
• Temporary Crown: A protective temporary crown is placed while the lab fabricates your custom crown.
• Final Crown Delivery: We try in the crown, check contacts and bite, then bond/cement it securely.
• Follow-Up: You’ll leave with care tips. Minor bite adjustments (if needed) are quick and easy.

Aftercare & Longevity

• Normal Sensitivity: Mild temperature sensitivity is common for a few days.
• Diet Tips: Avoid sticky or very hard foods while wearing the temporary crown.
• Oral Care: Brush and floss normally, but slide floss out gently to avoid dislodging the temporary.
• Long-Term Success: Crowns often last 10–15+ years with good home care, regular dental checkups, and a nightguard if you clench or grind.

Fixing or Replacing Old Crowns
